Setup Mobile Phones with Office 365

Morning ,

One of the first things my users want to know is how to setup their Smart Phone for Office 365. The problem is there are tons of phones and different implementation of the email programs. So finding a single answer that solves the problem can be problem.

In most cases using the Setup program on your phones should be enough to get you up and running. However if this fails you may need to do the Advance Configuration which is going to require some knowledge of servers that deliver your e-mail services.

The first place you need to go is the Mobile Phone Setup Wizard(click here, opens in a new window)

You will be asked to identify your phone, for this example I’m using Android.

Next you will be asked “What would you like to do

?“  Since you have Microsoft Exchange select the “Set up Microsoft Exchange E-mail on you XXXXX phone”.

You will be instructed on how to setup your phone. But here are some clarifying notes that I thought might help as you read through the instructions. (Remember is you are having someone else work on your phone, simply direct them to the Mobile Phone Setup Wizard.

As part of setting up your Office 365 account, you should have your own domain setup as the primary e-mail domain. For example my domain is: tektanium.com.

When you are asked for the Domain\Username you should enter your information

in this format:  tektanium.com\don@tektanium.com (This is the username that I use to log into my Office 365 Portal)

The Exchange Server Name differs from account to account, the Mobile Phone Setup Wizard has instructions on how to find your Exchange Server Name. Please follow these instructions, step by step. What you are looking for is the name of the Exchange Active Sync server, it will look something like “podxxxxx.outlook.com“  (the xxxxx will be a number).

Again, this Mobile Phone Setup Wizard has a lot of great detail for setup up your phone to receive e-mail, contacts, and calendar information.

One Important Point, in order to get Active Sync Working, you must have actually logged into Office 365 Outlook Web Application as the user that is trying to setup the phone.

If you have difficulty with the instructions, simply open go to http://office365.com and sign is as the user that is setting up the phone and view the inbox. Then close Outlook Web App, and try your setup again.

If you are having trouble, please contact my Support Center, I can help to answer any questions about your Office 365 Account, but I cannot really help you with specific issues related to you specific phone. These questions should be routed to the Support Center for you Smart Phone. However if they have questions about Office 365 and your account, let me know what they are and I’ll do my best to help.

Talk to you soon!
